Our history
The Foundation was established in 2000 as a means to enable and encourage research about new management concepts and models, initially inspired by the serious play concept and developed by Prof. Johan Roos and his colleagues at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) a few years earlier. Prof. Roos served as the Managing Director from the inception until end 2006, and Mr. Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, the 3rd generation owner of the LEGO company, chaired the board until 2010.
Under Prof. Roos’ leadership, during the first few years a group of scholars and practitioners with backgrounds in a range of fields, including management, psychology, sociology, music, and anthropology, pursued theoretical and experimental research that resulted in numerous conference presentation, publications, and articles in media.
From 2007 to 2012, the foundation collaborated with the European Academy of Management (EURAM) to award scholars for innovative research.
